A hacktivist named the j35t3r took out all of WBC’s websites in March through…
UPDATE: I’VE JUST BEEN TOLD BY J35T3R THAT HE DOES NOT USE A DDOS ATTACK FOR HIS HACKTIVISM. WE WILL BE COMMUNICATING A BIT AND I WILL BE DOING MORE RESEARCH OVER GOOGLE TO MAKE SURE I GET THIS RIGHT.
More updates soon.
In the meantime, here is a link to an article where J35T3R discusses his self-created Xerxes system in more detail. Since I know next to nothing about computers, it may take me a couple hours to figure this out. Be back soon! I have too much respect for what J35T3R does to get this wrong.
For folks who come here regularly, you know we’ve been following The j35t3r’s mini war with Westboro Baptist Church. A couple of months ago he knocked out all of their websites. Last time we checked on march 25th, they were still down. http://bit.ly/elS12q
It had been awhile since I wrote a post about this, so I stopped by the site Down for Everyone or Just Me to see if anything had changed. I was shocked to see that WBC is back up and running! I suppose all good things must come to an end eventually. Then I realized I had stopped keeping track of the amount of downtime. My assumption had been that they were permanently down for the count, so I’d gotten lazy about updating.
I decided to reach out to J35t3r on Twitter. I wanted to make sure the amount of down time was correct and see if there was anything else he had to say.
J35t3r responded quickly. Final count? WBC was offline from 21st of March until the 7th of April. That’s 18 days of blissful, hate free internet. 🙂
J35t3r says that he’s working on phase two. I wish him the best, and will be eagerly watching.
So, I tried googling Westboro’s “God Hates Fags” to make sure it was still down. Not only did the site not come up, but all you can find for the first three pages now are stories about the Supremem Court decision and the hacking of the website! Which means that if they ever do get live again, they’re going to have a lot of work to do to get their web presence back. 🙂
They’ll probably have to buy hits. LOTS of them.
But I went to the j35t3r’s blog today, and found a much for elegent way of asking about the condition of a website. The site is called “Down for Everyone or Just Me?” It lets you type in a site name, then Google finds out the status. Here’s the site’s address:
And here’s the proof, but the picture doesn’t load on the blog for a reason I can’t fix yet. To see it, click the pic and it will open up in a new screen:
As of Sunday, March 6th, Westboro’s site was still down! Here’s an exact copy of the tweet keeping us up to date from th3j35t3r’s (Jester’s) Twitter account:
….and on the 8th day god created hackers, and it was good.’ #Westboro Baptist – TANGO DOWN DAY 13 – your god doesn’t like you much? #WBC
Agaim, all I can keep saying is thank you j35t3r from SeaLinc2. For reasons I’ve already posted about in this blog, their hateful actions have dogged my every step for years. I never thought I would find relief from them. Even though they won their Supreme Court case, they still don’t have an internet presence for their hateful rhetoric.
If anyone wants to read something entertaining/enlightening, someone bought the domain fredphelps.com. It’s called “God Hates Fred Phelps”, and it talks all about his history and the church. It’s run by a gay activist who gives any donations to organizations that fight against their “church”.
Awww, yeah. 🙂 Really, there’s not much else to say except thank you to Anonymous and The J3st3r.
Cause that’s what’s up.
